Course Description: This course provides students with an introduction to the fundamentals of language testing, assessment, and evaluation. It reviews a variety of different assessment theories and approaches, such as test validity, reliability, practicality, authenticity, objectivity, fairness, and others. The course also enables students to develop a test or assessment tool based on the theories studied. Furthermore, students will critically analyze the effectiveness and quality of any language test and its adherence to standard assessment principles. In addition, students will engage in intensive discussions about the differences between norm-referenced and criterion-referenced tests, formative and summative assessment, general and specific-purpose tests, as well as computer-based tests, scoring systems, and many other core topics. By the end of this course, students are expected to have acquired in-depth knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of how to design, review, and evaluate language tests.

The main objective of this course is to introduce learners to the fundamentals of language testing and assessment, and to enable them to conduct a critical evaluation of language tests and their results.
