Advanced Topics in Pediatric Rehabilitation

Course Description: This advanced course provides an in-depth exploration of pediatric rehabilitation. The course will focus on enhancing clinical reasoning skills, motor learning principles, evidence-based physical therapy techniques, and the management of complex pediatric cases. Students will learn how to integrate pediatric rehabilitation principles with advanced physical therapy conditions, such as orthopedic, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and developmental patients. In addition, students will develop skills in selecting the most appropriate diagnostic, treatment, and follow-up strategies based on the child's age, functioning, participation needs, and the principles of family-centered care.

Objectives of the course :

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Identifying advanced concepts related to pediatric rehabilitation, motor learning, and appropriate physical therapy management for the age group.
2. Analyzing complex pediatric cases and linking them to previously studied concepts in orthopedics, internal medicine, and neurology within the contexts of pediatric rehabilitation.
3. Select evidence-based advanced rehabilitation strategies and appropriate physical therapy methods for pediatric patients with various functional disabilities, and justify their use.
4. Differentiating between child and adult case management methods in screening, treatment planning, progress, and follow-up.
5. Applying clinical reasoning in designing individualized, family-centered, and engagement-fostering rehabilitation plans for children with complex needs.
6. Demonstrate professional responsibility, self-directed learning, and collaborative discussion in pediatric case analysis.
