Pediatric clinical practice

Course Description: This is a full-time clinical course that provides students with the opportunity for observation and full hands-on practice (100%) in managing various pediatric cases. The course focuses on clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and evidence-based management. The clinical experience also provides students with exposure to the following: patient- and family-centered care, cultural diversity, the psychological and social dimensions of disability, documentation, and accountability.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

By the end of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Developing the concept of critical thinking and a methodology for solving medical problems in pediatrics related to the course topics.
2. Applying evidence-based, effective management approaches with various pediatric physical therapy patients.
3. Acquire the skills and behaviors required in clinical practice, considering patient and family-centered care.
4. Effective cooperation with all team members, verbally and in writing.
5. Implementing safety procedures.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding
– Identification of various pediatric diseases, clinical presentation, and therapeutic interventions.

 

• Skills:
Application of clinical reasoning in the evaluation of physical therapy according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model for various pediatric patients.
– Planning an evidence-based physical therapy program to achieve desired goals, taking into account the psychological and social dimensions of each patient's disability.
– Apply safety and infection control procedures.
– Utilize effective communication skills with colleagues and patients.
