Children

Course Description: This course will provide students with principles and practical skills related to the habilitation and rehabilitation of children. It will focus on normal growth and development from birth, potential developmental and genetic disorders, as well as various pediatric disorders encountered by physical therapists. The course emphasizes the use of evidence-based practices and clinical reasoning, enabling students to assess, diagnose, design, and implement an appropriate care plan for various pediatric disorders.
8 Credit Hours
Objectives of the course :

By the end of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Identifying the principles of normal growth and development related to child health and diseases, which form the basis of physical therapy.
2. Describe the causes of diseases, their pathological characteristics, and clinical symptoms, in addition to relevant medical, surgical, and physical therapy techniques for their evaluation and treatment.
3. Establishing an appropriate diagnosis and an effective treatment plan for various pediatric disorders encountered by physical therapists.
4. Demonstrating the skills necessary to apply various physical therapy approaches and techniques in the evaluation and treatment of various pediatric disorders encountered by physical therapists.
5. Enhancing the student's ability to acquire effective professional communication and teamwork skills.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding
- Describing the causes of diseases, their pathological characteristics, clinical symptoms, and prognosis.
- Understanding the various physical therapy techniques and methods for assessing and treating various pediatric disorders encountered by the physical therapist.

 

• Skills:
- Integrating human development knowledge with clinical decision-making.
– Demonstrating problem-solving skills and using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model in assessing various pediatric disorders encountered by the physical therapist.
– Designing an evidence-based intervention program suitable for the developmental stages of children of various ages, while integrating the basics of neuroscience, musculoskeletal concepts, and kinesiology principles.
– Demonstrating professional behavior and discipline in teamwork.
