Diagnostic radiology

Course Description: This course offers students the opportunity to study and analyze various diagnostic imaging modalities, including X-ray, MRI, and CT Scan, with a focus on their applications in the musculoskeletal, central nervous, and cardiopulmonary systems. Students will also gain fundamental skills in reading and interpreting normal and abnormal radiographic images and correlating them with the clinical condition. The course serves as a crucial knowledge base for subsequent applied courses, enhancing the application of acquired knowledge and skills in developing problem-solving, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making abilities in physical therapy practice.

Objectives of the course :

“1. Identifying various diagnostic imaging modalities and techniques and understanding their underlying basic principles.
2. Differentiating between various patterns of pathological conditions detectable through diagnostic imaging, including fractures, sprains, muscle and ligament tears, stress injuries, respiratory diseases, and brain injuries.
3. Correlating diagnostic test results with normal or pathological changes in tissues, organs, and bones to relevant clinical applications and understanding the underlying pathological processes.”

Course outputs :

1.1 Understanding the basic principles of various diagnostic imaging modalities, including X-ray, MRI, CT scan, and ultrasound.
1.2 Differentiating between various patterns of pathological conditions detectable by diagnostic imaging, including fractures, sprains, tears, stress injuries, chest diseases, and brain injuries.
1.3 Description of radiological changes, complications, and outcomes resulting from various pathological processes in different organ systems.
2.1 Employing clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based practice in the assessment and interpretation of various diagnostic examinations.
2.2 Linking degenerative changes and traumatic injuries and interpreting associated clinical disorders based on diagnostic imaging findings.
2.3 Interpretation of routine radiographic images and the use of scientific evidence to determine the most appropriate therapeutic interventions in physical therapy practice.
3.1 Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and continuous self-learning skills to support competent and ethical professional practice in physiotherapy.”
