Issues and Problems in Science Curriculum and Instruction

Course Description: The course aims to develop the student's understanding of issues and problems in the field of science curricula and teaching methods and to propose ways to address them.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

Distinguish between the objectives of science teaching and the intended learning outcomes of science teaching.
2. Analyzes issues related to science curriculum content standards: selection, organization, specifications, rules, and measurement indicators.
3. Identifies problems with laboratory use in science teaching and the quality of learning outcomes.
4. Researches issues related to in-class and extracurricular activities in science teaching.
5. Critiques the problems of unscientific thinking and superstitious thinking in society and the role of science curricula and teaching in addressing these issues.
6. Some issues related to the science lab are recognized: standards for its preparation, training, and performance evaluation.
7. Identifies some problems associated with the development and measurement of learning outcomes related to the affective domain: scientific inclinations, scientific attitudes, scientific values.
8. It proposes research and teaching approaches to affirm the appreciation of the efforts of Arab and Muslim scholars in advancing scientific fields and human civilization.
