Course Description: This course covers pediatrics, built around general and specific behavioral objectives, integrating basic sciences with clinical sciences and diagnostic and management skills. The content addresses emergencies and routine cases, reviewing the objectives students are expected to achieve, which vary in importance for the general practitioner. This variation is indicated by the priority level specified in parentheses at the end of each objective. The content is divided into basic clinical skills, emergency medicine, diseases affecting newborns, diseases occurring after the neonatal period and during the preschool years, general childhood illnesses, adolescence, age-unrelated diseases, and chronic and cancerous diseases.

Objectives of the course :

1. Demonstrate responsible and compassionate behavior with the child and family, taking into account cultural, social, and economic backgrounds, and when interacting with all educational levels and abilities.
Use the required communication skills to take an appropriate medical history and perform a physical examination.
3. Assess the role of basic sciences (e.g., anatomy, physiology, biochemistry) and basic pathophysiology relevant to pediatric practice in the diagnosis and treatment of common childhood diseases.
4. Identifying the population's and community's epidemiological profile, their heritage, and their cultural, social, geographical, and economic characteristics, and the relationship of all this to child health, disease causes, and treatment.
5. To have the knowledge and skills to monitor and maintain a child's healthy physical, psychological, and educational development.
6. Possess the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and treat child health problems, including emergencies, common childhood diseases with endemic or epidemic causes, and disabilities, including prevention, health promotion, treatment, rehabilitation, and follow-up.
7. Optimal selection of the most appropriate and cost-effective capacities and the health system's capacities.
8. Interact effectively with the child health team and other teams (and appreciate the roles of others) in delivering child health services.
9. Continue independent learning in pediatrics science and practice, and pursue postgraduate studies.
