Human, Environment and Health

Course Description: This course covers the human being and their environment. It includes general and specific objectives that introduce the student to the foundations of the internal environment of the human being and the external environment surrounding them. It also covers the interactions between these two environments, the regulatory laws pertaining to physiological functions, and the continuously changing protective measures in response to fluctuating external environmental conditions. These conditions necessitate specific functional responses. In the absence of regulatory mechanisms, appropriate responses, and necessary protection, disease arises.
Credits: 7
Objectives of the course :

1. Identification of the structure, composition, and functions of body organs, biological membranes, and protective barriers between the human body and its environment.
2. Explain the concept of homeostasis and the main mechanisms involved in maintaining the stability of the internal environment.
3. Explanation of the General Organization of the Nervous System and its Role in Homeostasis.
4. Understanding environmental perspectives in the human-environment relationship and the health consequences of exposure to a variety of potential hazards (physical, chemical, and biological) in the environment.
5. Explain the reciprocal relationship between the vector, host, and environment in disease occurrence and the concepts of endemic and epidemic diseases.
6. Identify the basic principles of nutrition and bioenergy.
7. Implementing basic life support measures in a simulation center.
8. Demonstrating the ability to work in a team, self-directed learning, and appropriate communication skills in various educational environments.

Course outputs :

1. Identify the basic homeostatic mechanisms involved in regulating body temperature, fluid/electrolyte balance, and acid-base balance.
2. Describe the role of the autonomic nervous system in maintaining homeostasis
3. Describe the potential effects of physical, biological, and chemical environmental hazards on the body's protective barriers and their role in disease development.
4. Critically evaluate and integrate medical knowledge related to the body's homeostasis from relevant sources in order to make evidence-based decisions in clinical scenarios.
5. Choosing their special educational needs and demonstrating responsibility for self-directed learning.
6. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a team, and exercise leadership when appropriate
