Introduction to the study of medicine

Course Description: The first educational module, spanning four weeks from the student's enrollment in the Faculty of Medicine, aims to prepare, orient, shape, and develop the student's concepts, skills, and abilities by connecting them to learning methods. This is achieved by stimulating their innate drive for discovery, knowledge, and problem-solving. The primary goal of this educational module is to prepare a student who possesses the capacity for self-directed learning and the development of their learning and attainment faculties to keep pace with the flow of information and meet the requirements of continuous active learning. This serves as a crucial foundation for the future development of the graduating physician within a system geared towards community service and keeping abreast of advancements in the medical field.

Objectives of the course :

1. Practicing the brainstorming method in discussions and the dilemma-based learning style.
2. Practice active interaction with other students.
3. Learn communication and work skills through a group.
4. The ability to prioritize, formulate educational objectives, and implement appropriate achievement and research methods to achieve those objectives.
Guiding the student to the principles of medical terminology in the basic medical sciences.
6. Identify the core areas of basic medical science.

Course outputs :

Understand the rationale and core principles of student-centered and community-oriented medical education.
2. Describe the principles and processes of Problem-Based Learning (PBL).
3. Evaluate, understand, and integrate medical knowledge and related relevant sources for evidence-based practice in various health-related fields.
4. Analyze a specific patient case scenario to identify your own educational needs.
5. Interpretation of acquired knowledge for a deeper understanding of the problem at hand.
6. Demonstrate responsibility for your own learning.
7. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a problem-based learning group, lead it, and evaluate your own performance and that of your colleagues and supervisor in group discussions.
Demonstrate satisfactory written and verbal communication skills when presenting information to colleagues and supervisors.
9. Effectively utilize available learning resources to search for, gather, organize, and integrate required information.
