Health Quality Management

Course Description: Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the principles and practices of quality management in healthcare settings, and learn how to use various quality tools to effectively identify and solve problems. The course will also address current efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare systems.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: BHA 212
Objectives of the course :

Describe the historical trends and political and social factors affecting healthcare quality.
2. Understanding different healthcare quality concepts, the relationship between industrial quality and healthcare quality, the various dimensions in quality management, and understanding the concept of customers and their expectations.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the tools used in quality measurement and improvement, including: clinical indicators programs, patient safety and adverse event monitoring, patient satisfaction surveys, benchmarking, evidence-based medicine, clinical guidelines, quality improvement programs, accreditation, Six Sigma quality programs, and risk management.
4. Understand different quality management approaches and methodologies (Total Quality Management, Continuous Quality Improvement, and explore and apply the Six Sigma DMAIC methodology within a management framework). 5. Understand healthcare quality outcome measurement techniques (Identify metrics for process measurement).
5. Understanding the process of health organization accreditation, including standards, clinical survey cycles, and classification within the clinical quality framework. Medical audit and data utilization for outcome improvement.

• Identify and describe the principles, concepts, and tools of quality management in healthcare.
• Quality management and the challenges of its application in the health sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and a comparison between different countries according to the health quality management system.
A comparison of different strategies for continuous performance improvement in terms of structure, process, and outcome measurement in the evolving healthcare sector.
• Demonstrate team spirit and collaboration among members in an official leadership role, and work with the team to critically analyze continuous quality improvement efforts in healthcare organizations.
