Issues in Linguistics and Computing

Course Description: The course deals with the study of the most important linguistic and critical trends, especially structural linguistics and text linguistics, and the application of some of their principles.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

This course aims to help students understand the most important scientific contributions by which linguistics has surpassed the shortcomings of traditional linguistic study since Saussure, and to recognize the most important linguistic and semantic theories of the second half of the twentieth century, and the most important hypotheses and starting points by which preceding structuralist theories were surpassed. It also aims to study the most important hypotheses from which generativists, pragmatists, functionalists, and cognitivists start, and to introduce computational linguistics in modern linguistic research, enabling the application of these linguistic principles to the study of Arabic phenomena and their use in re-reading Arabic linguistic heritage.
