Evidence-Based Practice (3)

Course Description: This course is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to perform the role of a pharmacist in identifying drug and disease-related information, critically interpreting and evaluating scientific literature, and appropriately applying evidence-based medical and pharmaceutical information in the provision of pharmaceutical care within a healthcare setting. The course is also designed to provide students with the fundamental skills necessary to communicate drug information in any area of pharmacy practice.

Objectives of the course :

Possessing the necessary skills to critically evaluate and determine the relevance of various published literature, and applying literature appraisal principles to analyze the results of clinical trials.
Understanding the development and evaluation process of medical practice guidelines to achieve optimal medication use.

 

3. Understand how to use prior knowledge in biostatistics to interpret the results of commonly used statistical tests and to evaluate the effect size of a treatment.
4. Demonstrating the ability to judge the reliability and validity of different clinical trials, and distinguishing between the internal and external validity of different trials.

5. Determine the different evidence levels and describe the sequence of study designs.
6. Understanding how to integrate evidence related to drug information, patient-specific factors, and other relevant information into healthcare delivery.

Description of the principles and steps of evidence-based pharmacy practice.

Understanding how to interpret evidence results and assess the magnitude of therapeutic effect.

Learning how to develop and evaluate clinical practice guidelines.

Differentiating between different levels of evidence, drawing conclusions and recommendations from the best available evidence, and applying them to patients.
