Description:
The Department of History was opened in 1398 AH / 1978 AD, under the umbrella of the College of Shari'ah and Arabic Language, the branch of Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University in Qassim, but this college was soon separated in 1401 AH / 1980 AD into two colleges, namely: The College of Shari'ah and Fundamentals of Religion and the College of Arabic and Social Sciences. In 1424 AH/2003 AD, the Royal Decree was issued to merge the branch of Imam Muhammad bin Saud University with the branch of King Saud University in Qassim, and to establish Qassim University, and then the name of the college was changed to: At the same time, the University Council suspended admission to the undergraduate program, provided that this suspension would be for a period of four years, after which the issue of re-admission would be considered, due to the presence of a large number of history graduates in the Kingdom on waiting lists for jobs, and teaching in the program continued for the existing batches before the suspension of admission, until the graduation of male and female students was completed, and during this period the University Council approved the opening of a master's program with two specific tracks, Islamic history and Hadith, and then two similar programs for the doctorate. The department then recommended the reopening of admission, and linked its recommendation to the fact that the number of male students admitted in each batch should not exceed forty male students. The University Council issued a decision (4-2-1435/1436 AH) approving this, and students were admitted in 1437 AH, and in the academic year 1441 AH, admission was opened for female students, with the same number allocated for male students.
