Statistics: Building materials prices fell in August

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed a decline in the prices of iron, cement and tile, while the prices of most building materials stabilized at their previous level during the month of August compared to July. The agency explained - in its monthly bulletin of the average prices of building materials for the consumer (retail) during the month of August issued on Monday - the prices of white cement decreased by 01.96TP3T to record 47.10 pounds per 50 kilograms compared to 47.76 pounds per 50 kilograms during the previous July, while the prices of clay decreased by 01.46TP3T to reach 68.64 pounds compared to 68.96 pounds during the comparison period. The statistics added that the prices of wrought iron for buildings (10,13,16 mm) decreased during the last month to reach EGP 4525 compared to EGP 4569 in the previous month by a decrease of 01.96TP3T. At the annual level, the agency pointed out that most of the prices of building materials in the Egyptian market declined last August compared to the same month of 2011, with sand prices falling by 81.25TP3T to record EGP 29.90 per cubic meter compared to EGP 32.59 per cubic meter, and the prices of marble to record 68.64 pounds per cubic meter compared to 70.77 pounds per cubic meter, a decrease of 31.0% from last year. The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) explained in its monthly bulletin of the average prices of building materials for consumers (retail) during the month of August that the prices of iron water pipes with a diameter of 3/4 inch decreased during the last month compared to August 2011 by 101.46TP3T to reach EGP 10.53 per meter compared to EGP 11.76 per meter and iron water pipes with a diameter of 1 inch by 9.92 % to reach 12.89 EGP against 14.31 EGP per meter. The cement sector witnessed a variation in its prices, with the price of ordinary Portland cement rising by %2.19 during the past month to reach EGP 26.65 per 50 kg compared to EGP 26.08 per 50 kg during the same period last year, and the price of white cement by 121.54TP3T to reach EGP 47.10 per 50 kg compared to EGP 41.85 per 50 kg. The price of iron cement fell by 0.68% to EGP 24.69 per 50 kilograms last August, compared to EGP 24.86 per 50 kilograms in August 2011. In the timber sector, the price of "Swedish wood type "1" decreased by 2.28 / % during last August to reach 1715 pounds compared to 1755 pounds per cubic meter during August last year, and the price of beech wood from "100-170" increased by 3.23 / % to reach 3200 pounds per square meter compared to 3100 pounds per square meter during the comparison period. In the iron sector, the prices of 10mm, 13mm and 16mm building steel fell by 11.15 TP3T last month to reach EGP 4525 per ton compared to EGP 5093 per ton during the same month last year.
