UQU President launches the 11th phase of the "Qassim Green Earth" and "Let's Make it Green" initiatives

His Excellency Prof. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, inaugurated on Tuesday morning, 19/10/1444 A.H., the initiative of His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Emir of Qassim Region, "Qassim Land is Green", in its eleventh phase, and "Let's Make it Green" initiative, at the University City, in cooperation with Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture Branch in Qassim and National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVCD).

The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of His Excellency the UQU Vice President, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Saawi, His Excellency the UQU Vice President for Planning, Development and Quality, Prof. Khalid bin Bani Al-Harbi, Engineer Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Ruijai, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture Branch in Qassim Region, and the Director of the National Center for Vegetation Development Branch in the region, Engineer Badr bin Abdulrahman Al-Nuqaidan, as this campaign aims to plant 30 thousand seedlings and 45 thousand flowers in addition to increasing the green areas to more than 160 thousand square meters, which exceeded 70 thousand trees during its previous phases.

For his part, His Excellency the Vice President, Dr. Mohammed Al-Saawi, affirmed that the university continues its journey that it started several years ago with its participation in this campaign, pointing out that Qassim is the land of development, the land of goodness and the land of agriculture and the university can only be part of this fabric, as the university set afforestation as a goal several years ago and is moving towards it with strength and determination to increase the area of green spaces and tree cover in all its sites and branches.

Al-Saawi said: He added that the university city has radically changed over the past years and has worn a new green suit, which increases day by day because the results of afforestation need patience and appear after years, and it is hoped that with God's help and success, the university will be decorated with trees in all its parts with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, thanking all the staff of the General Administration of Services and Maintenance working on this project.

The university's participation in this initiative stems from its interest in developing vegetation cover, and its contribution to protecting the environment and reducing the effects of desertification by planting trees and shrubs suitable for the region's climatic conditions. From the first phase to the tenth phase, the university represented by the General Administration of Services and Maintenance planted more than 70 thousand trees, taking care to diversify the trees and shrubs between palm trees, trees and annual flowers, increasing the vegetation cover to more than 200%.

At the end of the ceremony, the UQU President honored the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Qassim and the National Center for the Development of Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification in the region for their cooperation with the university in implementing the Qassim Green Earth Initiative and the Let's Make it Green Initiative.
