His Excellency Prof. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, affirmed that the various countries of the world place the flag to symbolize the shared hopes, aspirations and visions of the citizens that lead them to achieve common goals and feel the spirit of belonging and citizenship under one flag, and if the flags of countries represent their identities in terms of symbolic connotations associated with their civilization, history and culture, the flag of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia symbolizes with the certificate of monotheism - which is in the middle of it - the message of peace and Islam on which this blessed state was founded, and the sword symbolizes the strength and pride and high wisdom and prestige, and was a witness to the campaigns it fought for the unification of the country.
He added that he believes that the flag is of great importance as a manifestation of the state, its strength and sovereignty, and a symbol of cohesion, coalition and national unity over three centuries in which the generation of fathers and grandfathers with the wise leadership presented one of the greatest epics in the history of the emergence of states.
In recognition of this importance, the royal decree was issued that March 11 of each year should be a special day for science, under the name "Flag Day." This is the date on which King Abdulaziz - may God rest his soul - approved the flag as we see it today, with its great connotations of unity, justice, strength, growth and prosperity, flying high and proud and never broken in any way.
Al-Dawood said: On this occasion, I urge my sons and daughters, male and female students, to adhere to the national unity symbolized by the flag of monotheism, to preserve the national cohesion with our wise leadership, and to read history in depth to realize that the flag they shade today is the product of a history of struggle, patience and courage, which will be a motivation to continue working and keep this great country leading, prosperous and safe under our wise leadership, may God protect it.
