Dr. Al-Hamoudi Praises the Qualitative Leap in Information Technology at Qassim University

His Excellency the President of Qassim University, Professor Dr. Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Hamoudi, praised the achievements of the Deanship of Information Technology at the university and its success in developing the university's technical work mechanisms, noting that the deanship has contributed to the rapid advancement of electronic services provided to the university's affiliates, including administration, staff, faculty members, male and female students. .
His Excellency affirmed that the university is taking rapid steps to achieve the leadership's aspirations regarding e-government, offering his thanks and appreciation to the Dean of Information Technology and his colleagues, emphasizing that he is proud of the presence of a constellation of distinguished Saudi youth in the field of technology at the university.
His Excellency was briefed on the new data center to which the systems and data were transferred, which doubles the university's system capacity, enhances network security, and launches wireless networks covering large areas of the university city. He also honored the staff of the new university data center transfer project who supervised the transfer of systems and data, namely (Eng. Fahad Al-Dakheel, Eng. Osama Yahya, Eng. Mamoon Abu Al-Haj, Eng. Suleiman Al-Rasheed, Eng. Khalid Al-Orini, Eng. Ibrahim Al-Qurza'i, Eng. Yasser Al-Eid, Eng. Abdullah Al-Qusi, Eng. Hamada Nour, Eng. Reda Khalil, Eng. Raafat Hassan, Eng. Abdulaziz Mohammed).
For his part, the Dean of Information Technology, Dr. Abdullah Al-Salehi, reviewed the current and future projects, the level of protection in the university's IT systems, and the increasing demand for the services provided, especially with the geographical spread of colleges.
Dr. Al-Salehi mentioned that electronic services vary depending on the target segments, which include students, faculty members, and staff.
Dr. Al-Salehi indicated that the link between the university colleges and the data center at the headquarters is nearing completion via (IP-VPN), in addition to the presence of wireless microwave towers, which ensures the stability of the university colleges' network connection.
As Mr. Fahd Al-Dakhil indicated the existing projects in network management at the Deanship of Information Technology, he explained that the information network infrastructure project is distributed in the university city in Al-Mellaida – the University Studies Center for Girls and the former College of Engineering –, Buraidah, Unaizah, Ar Rass, Al Bakiriyah, Al Badai, Al Mithnab, Al Aysiyah, Uqlat Al Suqoor, and Dhariyah. Network points totaling 6450 were installed in 29 colleges in the mentioned governorates with a data transfer speed of 1000Mbps. Work on the College of Science and Arts in Al Aysiyah Governorate will be completed soon.
A new additional link is being established for colleges located outside the university city in Al-Mullaida, to the university's data center. The additional experimental link has been completed at the College of Designs and the College of Science and Arts in Buraidah (scientific departments) at the university's main campus. This is in addition to the existing full link via 10 microwave towers, ranging in height from 12 to 100 meters, connecting 35 colleges in 6 governorates with speeds of up to 100 Mbps. The network performance is monitored around the clock, and connection quality is ensured through dedicated monitoring screens.
Regarding the expansion of wireless network coverage, the current project aims to cover 80 buildings, with indoor and outdoor coverage extending 100 meters. 500 broadcast devices have been installed and are currently being increased after confirming effectiveness and avoiding potential issues, to reach over 8,000 broadcast devices by the end of 2015, serving approximately 70,000 beneficiaries.
Mr. Hamad Al-Suwail, Director of the Portal and E-Services Department, provided further information about the electronic systems and services on the university's website.www.qu.edu.sa)and the progress level of the university's e-correspondence system, which is currently used by 52 out of 82 entities within the university, with the remaining entities awaiting completion, noting that the number of employees registered in the system exceeds 1777, the number of outgoing transactions from the system is over 26 thousand, and the number of operations completed within the system exceeds 2.5 million operations to date. The system features the ability to refer and attach files, taking into account the administrative organizational structure and the specific authorizations granted to each entity. It is also considered a milestone in the university's electronic transactions, in addition to the e-council system, which benefits 92 councils, including the university council. Al-Suweil explained that e-services for university employees have been added, including: leave requests, deputations, mission completion, overtime, and a set of other services planned for release soon.
Additionally, numerous electronic services have been launched for postgraduate students at the university, so that student attendance is not required to complete their services, and the scientific journals system, which was recently launched by His Excellency the University President, Prof. Dr. Khalid Al-Hmuddi, facilitates scientific publication for faculty members in the university's official scientific journals and arbitration methods up to the publication stage.
