On Tuesday, 8/3/1441 A.H., Prof. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, UQU President, witnessed a joint cooperation agreement between the university, represented by the College of Engineering, and the City Cement Company, in conjunction with the First International Conference on Sustainability of Natural Resources "Sustainable Solid Waste Management", organized by the university for two days with the participation of 36 speakers.
The agreement, which was signed by Dr. Mishaal bin Ibrahim Al-Mashaigah, Dean of the College of Engineering, at the main lobby of the University City, with the Executive Director of Al-Madina Cement, Mr. Majed bin Abdulrahman Al-Asilan, in the presence of the university vice presidents and a number of university employees at the exhibition accompanying the conference, is in line with the economic and developmental programs that the Kingdom is seeking through the National Transformation Project 2020 plan and the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which includes reducing the Kingdom's dependence on oil and preserving the environment.
This memorandum provides for cooperation between the two sides by actively contributing to the realization of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 by holding seminars, conferences and workshops to raise awareness of the vision's objectives regarding development and development in the fields of industry, proposing and implementing community initiatives within the framework of the various axes of the vision, in addition to conducting joint studies and research related to energy saving and environmental conservation with a focus on their applications in the cement industry and building materials in general, as well as proposing programs that contribute to community service and environmental awareness and developing new environmentally friendly products.
The terms of the memorandum also included the use of experts and distinguished engineers working for the company as members of the college's advisory board, which is concerned with periodically reviewing the study objectives of the college programs in line with the requirements of the labor market, in addition to providing college students with the opportunity to visit the company's factories in order to enrich their engineering knowledge before graduation, accepting a number of college students annually to conduct summer training at the company, and any new areas of cooperation that the two parties deem appropriate.
