His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Qassim Region, patronized today, Sunday, 14/5/1440 A.H., the first international conference to evaluate the performance of faculty members in the light of recent national and international trends, organized by the university represented by the College of Education over two days with the participation of a number of specialists in several universities from inside and outside the Kingdom.

 

During the opening of the conference, Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, stressed that the faculty member in universities is the main element in producing the final output by playing important and articulated roles in achieving the university's goals of teaching, scientific research and community service, pointing out that the university is a large scientific edifice that includes more than 4400 faculty members in 38 colleges for male and female students spread in the governorates of the region, and more than 71 thousand male and female students are enrolled in it, and the university has obtained the institutional academic accreditation and came second in the number of its accredited programs.

Al-Dawood pointed out the importance of enhancing the performance of faculty members through an evaluation process based on scientific foundations to ensure continuous improvement, which reflects positively on the quality of educational institutions and their outputs.

 

 He added: He added that this conference comes to achieve the Kingdom's 2030 goals in education, which can only be achieved with a perfect and distinguished performance by the faculty member, who occupies a key position in any educational system, so educational systems are keen to improve and develop his performance to ensure the continuity of the educational process and achieve its desired goals, pointing out that this will only come He expressed his hope that the conference will provide through its recommendations a proposed framework in the process of evaluating the performance of a faculty member based on objective scientific foundations and will be a scientific reference for national and scientific universities to benefit from.

 

Al-Dawood thanked His Highness the Emir of the region for sponsoring and opening this conference and for his interest in the university's march and continuous support for its activities, programs and events, and all those who attended and participated in the conference, praying to Allah to protect this nation, to grant mercy to our martyrs and to heal our wounded.

 

For his part, the head of the conference organizing committee, Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Sami bin Fahd Al-Sunaidi, stressed that education in general and university education in particular, during the last two decades in many countries of the world, is witnessing a reform and development movement for the educational process at the university level in order to achieve excellence in the university graduate that allows him to face the challenges posed by the 21st century, so the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz - may Allah protect him - has paid great attention to university education until Saudi universities achieved a major educational boom during his era, pointing out that these universities became offering their students scientific and medical specialties.

 

The head of the conference's organizing committee pointed to the need to develop the performance evaluation of faculty members in universities to measure their performance and develop the method of continuous improvement in a modern scientific manner, within the educational quality process of these institutions, and therefore the idea of the conference came, which Qassim University represented by the College of Education under the guidance of His Excellency the President of the University to identify scientific and practical methods to evaluate the performance of the faculty member to add quality to the teaching and research process and community service, and to enable him to perform his tasks and duties and the goal of continuous improvement and development.

 

Al-Sunaidi added that the conference aims to deepen the role of the university in achieving Vision 2030, identify national and international trends and benefit from the experiences of some leading universities with high evaluation globally in evaluating the faculty member. It also aims to build standards for his performance, identify the measures and indicators that the university adopts for evaluation, and to reach the design of a framework in which evaluation takes place by utilizing forward-looking proposals and plans to activate evaluation standards to spread its culture and demonstrate its importance as an entry point for reforming university education.

 

The conference addresses several themes, the most important of which are the evaluation of teaching practices, professional growth and community participation of the faculty member, in addition to evaluating its relationship with innovation, creativity, and its evaluation in the light of institutional and programmatic academic accreditation standards, and reviewing some national and international trends, with the participation of many researchers and academics from inside and outside the Kingdom, where the participants from outside the Kingdom were from the Arab Republic of Egypt, Algeria and Jordan, and the fields of scientific papers submitted to the conference varied to reach 100 participants, and after examination and arbitration by the scientific committee, the participants reached 32 research papers covering the following

 

Dr. Bandar bin Muhammad Al-Sulaiman, Assistant Professor at the Department of Educational Administration and Planning at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, delivered the speech of the conference participants, in which he thanked His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal, Governor of Qassim Region, for his generous sponsorship of the conference, stressing that this sponsorship indicates the keenness of our wise government, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, may Allah protect them, to nurture science, support scientists, strive towards developing its environment and raise the efficiency of its employees.

 

Al-Sulaiman pointed out that the conference set its sights on the national trends and the Kingdom's Vision 2030, where the mission of universities as an influential factor in achieving national goals is highlighted today, through the tasks and roles of universities, which are education, scientific research and community service, stressing that it was necessary for universities to seek to achieve local and international competitiveness that ensures raising the level of their outputs by building their independence, developing their resources and raising the efficiency and quality of operation and spending, so the importance of evaluating the performance of faculty members in Saudi universities stands out, so that universities are an influential player in the development and national economy.

 

On behalf of all conference participants, male and female researchers, Al-Sulaiman praised the support and follow-up of the Ministry of Education, headed by His Excellency the Minister, Dr. Hamad bin Muhammad Al-Sheikh, and His Excellency Prof. Abdul-Rahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of Qassim University, and the conference organizers, stressing his confidence that this conference - God willing - will provide an important addition towards developing the performance evaluation of faculty members in Saudi universities to compete with their counterparts in the world, praying to God to crown these efforts with success and grant us devotion in words and deeds.

 

In the meantime, H.H. the Emir of Qassim honored the participants in the conference, and the scientific sessions continued. Two scientific sessions were held, during which a number of scientific papers presented by several researchers were discussed, including aspects of evaluating the performance of the faculty member, while the rest of the conference sessions will continue tomorrow, Monday, at the University City headquarters.
