Surgery (1)

Course Description: This course covers the study, diagnosis, and treatment of various general surgical injuries, such as abscesses, hernias, tumors, hematomas, cysts, fistulas, gangrene, necrosis, bleeding and hemorrhage control, wound management and treatment, and fractures and their healing. It provides students with fundamental knowledge on principles of sterilization and disinfection, surgical instruments, surgical sutures, wound closure, and bandages. The course also addresses veterinary anesthesia and diagnostic imaging (X-rays and ultrasound).

Credit hours: 4

Prerequisites: VMD 482

Objectives of the course :

Students gain the skills necessary to differentiate between various general surgical problems in animals.
2. Students can analyze data from various sources related to the principles of sterilizing operating rooms, equipment, and surgical instruments, and preparing animals for surgery.
.Students will be able to handle general and specialized surgical instruments and demonstrate their practical use.
Provide students with skills related to anesthesia, sedation, suturing, wound closure, and different types of dressings.
Students must possess skills in using X-rays and ultrasound for diagnostic imaging.

Course outputs :

Applying critical and analytical thinking skills to surgical intervention.
