Clinical Pharmacology

Course Description: By the end of this course, the student will be able to: - Prepare the student to develop an understanding of the principles of individualizing drug therapy. - Apply the principles of clinical pharmacology and rational pharmacotherapy in clinical practice and develop the necessary skills and attitudes to recognize and avoid irrational prescribing.

Objectives of the course :

– Preparing the student for:
- Understanding the main theories related to drug action and pharmacokinetics, as well as knowing the effect of the drug on major organs of the body, and therapeutic uses.
– Understanding the basics of drug use in treating diseases.
- Maintain the latest drugs and evaluate their therapeutic potential.
– Description of the main side effects and toxicity of drug overdose. – Demonstration of the health risks of drug residues and the selection of drugs with no withdrawal time.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:
The student should be able to describe the sources of modern drugs and drugs commonly used in veterinary medicine. Describe drugs that affect the nervous, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and urinary systems.
Skills:
The student should be able to apply the principles of clinical pharmacology and rational drug therapy in clinical practice and develop the necessary skills and attitudes to recognize and avoid irrational prescribing.

The student should be able to develop a therapeutic plan for a specific health problem based on an appropriate assessment of drug efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and side effects.
The student should be able to clinically simulate the animal owner.
