Toxicology and Forensic Medicine

Course Description: - After studying this course, the student will be able to: - Understand general and special toxicology. - Understand the general steps for treating various poisons. - Have general knowledge of forensic medicine, including: - Identifying animals. - Discussing the causes and signs of death. - Selecting appropriate anesthetics for all types of animals. - List medications that affect different body systems.

Objectives of the course :

– Prepare the student to deal with different types of poisons, enabling them to gain general knowledge of poisons, including how they work, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of various poisons such as heavy metals, corrosives, pesticides, poisonous plants, animal toxins, and food and gas toxins.
– General forensic knowledge including: animal identification, causes of death, post-mortem signs and changes, wounds, burns, and bloodstain pattern analysis.

The student should be able to describe modern treatments for various poisoning problems and potential causes of death in animals.

The student should be able to evaluate laboratory results using toxicology data to reach the correct diagnosis.
