Pharmacology

Course Description: By the end of this course, the student will be able to: - Acquire basic knowledge of veterinary pharmacology. - Know the different sources of drugs used in veterinary medicine. - Differentiate between pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. - Discuss factors affecting drug action and dosages. - Select an appropriate anesthetic for all animal species. - Enumerate drugs affecting different body systems.

Prerequisites: BCH 301
Objectives of the course :

– Prepare the student to deal with general pharmacology, enabling them to gain knowledge about drug actions and mechanisms of effect, as well as drugs that affect different systems such as the autonomic nervous system, central nervous system, gastrointestinal system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, urinary system, and tissue hormones.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:
The student should be able to describe the sources of modern drugs and drugs commonly used in veterinary medicine. Describe drugs that affect the nervous, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and urinary systems.
Skills:
The student should be able to explain the factors that affect the movement of drug molecules in the body of poultry, pets, and farm animals.
The student should be able to choose appropriate drugs and medications for reproductive problems.
