Course Description: This course includes: - Up-to-date information on the nomenclature, classification, general characteristics, pathogenicity, and virulence factors of bacteria and fungi. - Diagnostic methods for bacteria and fungi of veterinary importance, especially those found in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. - Practical sessions on diagnostic methods, which include: microscopic, cultural, biochemical, and serological characteristics of bacteria and fungi.

Prerequisites: VMD 341
Objectives of the course :

– Students will have up-to-date knowledge of the nomenclature, classification, and pathogenicity of bacteria and fungi.
Students will be able to identify bacteria and fungi in clinical samples based on their microscopic, culture, biochemical, and serological characteristics.

Course outputs :

– Enable students to keep up with changes in the naming and classification of bacteria and fungi.
Students will be able to understand the developments in diagnostic methods for bacterial and fungal infections.
Students will be able to apply knowledge and biosafety procedures related to handling clinical specimens.
Students will be able to identify and implement appropriate methods for the identification of bacteria and fungi in clinical samples.
