Probability (1)

Course Description: Discrete Probability Distributions (Probability Mass Function and its properties - Expected Value, Variance, Standard Deviation, and Moment Generating Functions for discrete distributions). Continuous Probability Distributions (Probability Density Function and its properties - Expected Value, Variance, Standard Deviation, and Moment Generating Functions for continuous distributions). Discrete and Continuous Bivariate Random Variables and their properties (Expected value of a bivariate random variable, Covariance, Correlation Coefficient for a bivariate random variable, Variance of the sum or difference of two random variables, Moment Generating Functions for a bivariate random variable). Joint Distributions (Marginal and Conditional Distributions - Independence of Random Variables - Conditional Expectation). Distributions of Functions of Random Variables. Random Sampling (Sampling Distribution of the Sample Mean – Law of Large Numbers – Central Limit Theorem).
Credit hours: 4
Prerequisites: STAT101
Objectives of the course :

This course aims to broaden the student's understanding and ability to distinguish between probability distributions and their applications. This course also aims to build a strong foundation in statistics and probability that will enable the student to continue studying advanced courses in the field of probability and statistics.

Course outputs :

Acquiring knowledge by learning some fundamental concepts related to probability theory and its applications. Enhancing the ability to classify statistical populations according to knowledge of the appropriate probability distribution, which facilitates the use and application of methods. Gaining cognitive skills through thinking and solving some real-life problems.
