It covers radionuclides, radiopharmaceuticals, and gamma camera/SPECT/PET imaging alongside the physics and practice of external beam therapy, brachytherapy, treatment units, dosimetry, treatment planning, and quality assurance, with an emphasis on patient care, positioning, and radiation protection in therapeutic settings.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: RAD 481
Objectives of the course :

• Description of the production of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals, and radiation detection.
• Performing and assisting with common nuclear medicine scans.
• Understanding the physics and devices of external beam therapy and brachytherapy.
• Application of principles of dose measurement, treatment planning, and quality assurance.
• Identify therapeutic uses of radionuclides and ensure radiation protection for the patient, self, and others.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:
• Identification of nuclear medicine equipment, dosimeters, and radiotherapy devices.
• Familiarize yourself with hybrid imaging (PET/CT and SPECT/CT) and the principles of treatment planning.
Skills:
• Differentiate between the operation of detectors, gamma cameras, SPECT, and PET.
• Explanation of photon and electron beam technologies and intensive processing.
Values:
