Interventional radiology

Course Description: This course introduces the historical applications of interventional radiology to the present day, along with the benefits and criteria relevant to its application. It also highlights common device models and types of diseases treated with interventional radiology, in addition to patient selection and preparation, and compares interventional radiology with surgery in terms of benefits and side effects. It presents and explains the procedures and techniques for selected common interventional radiology cases and how to prevent side effects during and after the procedure.

Objectives of the course :

• Familiarity with the tools and equipment used in interventional radiology.
• Knowing how to prepare the tray and the patient for interventional radiology.
• Knowledge of interventional radiology procedures for selected and special cases.
• Knowing how to prevent side effects that occur during and after interventional radiology.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:
• Define basic terms, risks, benefits, interventional radiology methods, and contraindications.
Skills:
• Prepare patients for interventional radiology and explain the procedure to them, comparing it to surgery.
• Clarify and perform vascular injections and catheter insertions in patients.

• Demonstrate interventional radiology techniques and select appropriate instruments.
