Computed Tomography

Course Description: This course covers the fundamental procedures and techniques of computed tomography (CT), as well as the cross-sectional anatomy of various human body systems and their appearance in CT images. It also enables students to identify and discuss the similarities and unique characteristics of images acquired and displayed using these techniques, including quality metrics.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: RAD 351
Objectives of the course :

• Description of the basic theoretical background of computed tomography procedures.
• Assess patient needs to justify the request for a CT scan.
• Equip the CT scan room with positioning devices, life-saving medications, and contrast media.
• Performing various CT scan examinations and protocols for different patients.
• Handle CT scanners appropriately and perform quality control to identify and correct problems.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:
• Maintain fundamental concepts and theoretical background for CT imaging procedures and safety management.
• Identify the types of CT procedures and common examinations in a clinical setting.
Skills:
• Evaluate CT scans for quality, anatomy, positioning, technique, and identify normal and abnormal images.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients, staff, and visitors.

• Reorganizing proper patient referral and selection of imaging, protection, and shielding techniques.
• Demonstrate advanced understanding of Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Electronic Health Record (EHR).
