Advanced clinical practice

Course Description: In this course, the expertise gained during radiologic technology courses is applied in real clinical situations. Students are assigned to work in the emergency room. During the first week, students observe the modification of standard radiologic techniques to meet the needs of accident and emergency patients. Under the supervision and guidance of qualified radiologic technologists, students perform X-ray examinations on injured and critically ill patients. Students are also assigned to rotate with the mobile imaging team, accompanying a radiologic technologist to fulfill X-ray examination requests for patients in intensive care units, isolation rooms, patient rooms, neonatal units, and other bedside examinations using mobile X-ray machines. Students also accompany radiologic technologists to the operating room to perform patient X-ray examinations using mobile C-arm image intensifiers.

Objectives of the course :

The student acquires sufficient knowledge and understanding of fundamental radiological principles, techniques, and applications.
The student will identify and interpret basic, common, and emergent radiological abnormalities.
The student gains experience that serves as motivation for those who later wish to specialize in radiology and diagnostic imaging.
The student develops practical skills in the context of relevant theoretical knowledge.
The student develops communication, social, and emotional skills.
The student develops problem-oriented curricula and establishes practical diagnoses based on clinical foundations.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:
Differentiate between managing a routine patient and an accident/emergency patient.
• Adherence to the protocol for surgical cholangiography and refluxing pyelography and urethrography.
Skills:
• Operate mobile devices and C-arm mobile image intensifier for X-ray examinations of patients in intensive care.
Handle the patient with care and work in a reasonably short time.
Values:
• Modifying radiology techniques according to the needs of the admitted patient and the critically ill patient.
• Evaluate research and various types of academic and professional information.
