Fundamentals of General Radiologic Technology (1)

Course Description: This course aims to provide students with the theory, concepts, and practical experience necessary to perform specific radiological procedures. It covers patient positioning, equipment handling, radiation protection techniques, appropriate patient care methods, and radiographic image critique. Body regions covered include the chest, abdomen, upper extremities, and lower extremities.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: ANAT212
Objectives of the course :

• Patient positioning for radiological examination and determination of exposure factors.
• Achieve optimal radiologic procedures consistent with dose reduction for patients.
• Understand and apply radiation protection principles for the patient, self, and others.
• Recognize the radiological appearance of common diseases affecting the skeletal system, chest, and abdomen.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:
• Definition of medical terms used in radiological positions of the chest, abdomen, and upper and lower extremities.
• Understanding the effect of scattered radiation on film and how to minimize its effects.
Skills:
• Explain medical imaging procedures independently and recommend technical adjustments to ensure diagnostic quality.
• Description of radiological anatomy and the routine steps for performing radiological examinations of different body parts and the positions that produce diagnostic images.
