This course aims to equip the student with the information and skills related to the science of Quranic readings and their impact on interpretation and inference from verses, and it utilizes readings in interpreting the Holy Quran and in weighting the opinions of interpreters.
Knowledge and understanding:
To explain the origin of the science of Qira'at, the criteria for correct recitation, and the technical terms in Qira'at.
To clarify the impact of readings on interpretation, and the methods of guidance and selection in readings.
To mention the methods of writing in the science of readings.
Skills:
To apply specialized Quranic research methods in the science of readings.
Comparing authentic readings and anomalous readings.
Values, autonomy and responsibility:
To adhere to the etiquette of dialogue, the ethics of a researcher, and scientific integrity in his/her research.

Course Topics:
- Definition of the science of readings linguistically and idiomatically, and the difference between it and the Quran.
The importance of the science of Qira'at, its virtue, and the fruits of learning it.
- Source of the readings and did the Prophet, peace be upon him, recite with these readings?
-The criteria for a correct recitation; whether mutawaatir status is a prerequisite for the correctness of a recitation; and an explanation of the mutawaatir recitations.
The origin of the science of Qira'at and the stages of its codification.
-Methods of writing in the science of recitation, the most important works in this field, and an introduction to its most prominent scholars.
Readings in Tafsir books.
- The division of readings into Usul and Furush, its history and meaning.
- Abnormal readings, isolated readings, and interpretive readings: their definitions, sources, and the rules governing their use in exegesis.
- Guidance of Readings, its importance, and the most famous works in it.
-Variants in the Recitations: Their History and Rulings.
- The ruling on preferring between readings.
- An introduction to the Ten Reciters, their narrators, and their methods.
-The Influence of Recitations on Exegesis.
-Examples and applications of how different readings affect the interpretation of a verse.
-Examples and applications of the influence of different interpretations on the derivation of fiqh rulings.
