Psychopharmacology

Course Description: This course aims to increase the psychologist's awareness of key pharmacological terms, characteristics of drugs and medications used in psychiatry, their classifications, therapeutic and side effects, and their mechanisms of action. It also aims to familiarize participants with the scientific and commercial names of psychiatric medications, including antidepressants, anxiolytics, and antipsychotics, their mechanisms of action on the nervous system, their effects on the psychological aspect, and the stages of addiction and how withdrawal symptoms occur.

Objectives of the course :

• The course aims to:
• Introduce students to the types of psychoactive drugs, their classifications, and their mechanisms of action on the nervous system.
• Introduce students to the meanings of psychopharmacological terms in Arabic and English.
• Introduce students to how psychoactive drugs and medications affect the psychological aspect.
• Introduce students to the classification of psychotropic medications used in psychiatry.
• Introduce students to addiction, its stages, and how withdrawal symptoms occur.

Course outputs :

The student will know the types of psychotropic medications and how they can affect psychological aspects.
The student should mention psychiatric medications in detail.
To realize the therapeutic effects and side effects of psychoactive drug use
That the student understands the relationship between taking psychotropic medication and decreased response to psychotherapy.
