Course Description: Forensic psychology has emerged as a scientific discipline that combines forensic psychology and legal psychology. It has developed significantly in recent decades, with diverse theoretical and applied fields. It has become of utmost importance in courts, in various criminal and civil legal proceedings, in investigations of various crimes, and in identifying and apprehending criminals. Finally, it has become involved in therapeutic and rehabilitative interventions and specialized care programs in correctional settings. With this development, a new and distinct psychological profession has emerged: the forensic psychologist, which has gained a significant position in developed countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. Today, forensic psychology specialists have specific roles and particular activities. Given the importance of this specialty and its role in strengthening judicial institutions and associated correctional institutions in particular, this description aims to shed light on some aspects of this discipline. This includes increasing the psychologist's awareness of the concept of forensic psychology and some related terms such as the concept of crime, forensic medicine, and forensic psychological evaluation, and the differences between them, the origin of this branch, and its future challenges. This course also aims to explore theories explaining criminal behavior, introduce the student to the role of forensic psychology in criminal investigations and courts, and assess criminal responsibility from a psychological perspective. Furthermore, the course will clarify the importance of the forensic psychology specialty in testimony and investigations; present the roles played by the forensic psychologist in courts, prisons, and all legal proceedings for offenders; and finally, provide a comprehensive overview of counseling, therapeutic, and rehabilitative interventions for offenders, particularly prisoners and juvenile delinquents. .
