Developmental psychology: Childhood and adolescence

Course Description: This course addresses the concept of human development, its requirements, influencing factors, and its various research methodologies. It also covers the different aspects of development during childhood and the role of educators in psychologically nurturing this stage. The course further reviews developmental theories, common developmental issues in this stage, and guidance methods. Additionally, it examines the adolescent stage and the nature of associated changes, which necessitate fulfilling specific needs and requirements. The course also discusses problems arising from unmet needs and strategies for dealing with these issues.

Objectives of the course :

The course aims to:
• Introducing students to the concept of growth, its origins, principles, and importance, and the patterns of growth in which change can be measured.
Introduce students to the characteristics of the growth process, its laws, and the specific goals of developmental psychology. .
Introduce students to the research methods in developmental psychology and the various approaches and methodologies used in the study of development.
• Introducing students to the aspects of human growth in childhood and adolescence, including their different stages and limits.
• Introduction of students to some theoretical models of human growth (Piaget's theory of cognitive development, Erikson's theory of psychosocial development). .
• Introducing students to the role of social institutions in development (family, school, peers, media)
