Introduction to Prosthetics and Orthotics

Course Description: This course introduces students to the fundamental knowledge of prosthetics and orthotics, including their description, indications, contraindications, design, and fabrication. It also enables them to differentiate between the various types and uses of prosthetics and orthotics.

Objectives of the course :

1. Description of the correct use of the prosthesis or orthosis, the functions of its different parts, and the parts of the devices given to the patient.
2. Understanding the differences between various types of braces and prosthetics.

Course outputs :

• Define the basic concepts and definitions of prosthetics and orthotics.
• Identify the most common diseases requiring orthotic and prosthetic solutions.
• Identify all functional characteristics of prosthetic and orthotic components.
• Integrate relevant biomechanical and physiological principles into the assessment of amputee patients.
