Pharmacology of physical therapy

Course Description: This course aims to provide physical therapy students with a solid foundation in pharmacology to understand the effects of medications on patients' clinical status and their response to therapeutic and rehabilitative interventions. The course covers the basic principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, mechanisms of action of common drugs, their therapeutic uses, and their side effects, with a focus on drug interactions and their impact on physical therapy practice and evidence-based clinical decision-making.

Objectives of the course :

”Integrating pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles and understanding the impact of absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion processes on drug efficacy.
Explanation of the interaction between drug therapy and physical therapy and the positive and negative effects of medications on rehabilitation outcomes.
Assessing the probability of adverse drug interactions and therapeutic interventions used in physical therapy.
Selecting and applying appropriate therapeutic interventions in physical therapy in accordance with the patient's medication plan.”
