Pharmacology and Toxicology

Course Description: This course covers pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapeutics, and toxicology. It focuses on common medications, their effects, side effects, and dosages for patients who may be prescribed physical therapy. The course also integrates pharmacology with social, health, and political issues related to drug abuse and addiction.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

1. Understand how the body absorbs, distributes, and eliminates drugs.
2- Understand how medications affect the body.
3- Understanding ways medication is given to the body.
4. Determining the optimal medication to treat a specific medical condition or disease.
5. Understanding how medications are used and misused.
6. Identify the toxic compound or drug responsible for the symptoms or toxic effects.
Understanding what makes chemicals toxic and carcinogenic.
8- Understanding how new drugs are developed.

Course outputs :

• Students should be able to describe how the body absorbs, distributes, and eliminates drugs, identify the preferred agent for treating a specific medical disorder, and drug abuse and addiction.
Students should be able to evaluate information about different medications, their effects on body systems, their functional integration, and classify their advantages and disadvantages.
Students should be able to use their motor skills to perform basic experiments and explain data, handle chemicals and equipment carefully and safely, and demonstrate the use of common basic chemicals and equipment.
