Physiology (1)

Course Description: This course provides a comprehensive understanding of cell membrane, nerve, and muscle physiology, including membrane transport, action potentials, synaptic transmission, and muscle contraction. It also covers the physiology of the autonomic nervous system and its role in regulating visceral organ functions. Additionally, the course focuses on blood and cardiovascular system physiology, including blood components, hemostasis, cardiac function, blood pressure regulation, and electrocardiography, with a particular emphasis on normal physiological mechanisms in the human body and their clinical significance.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

• Description and explanation of the physiological processes and functional regulation of the different human body systems.
Understand the basic mechanisms of nerve conduction, muscle contraction, blood physiology, and cardiovascular system regulation.
• Perform and interpret basic physiological experiments related to various body systems.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding:
1. Description of the resting membrane potential and action potential, and how the equilibrium potential is formed.
2. Describe the structure and general functions of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems within the autonomic nervous system, and the role of the motor unit in controlling muscle contraction.
3. Description of blood components and heart functions, and mechanisms for regulating its functions.
4. Recall the structure and function of smooth muscle.
Skills:
1. Differentiate between different muscle types and patterns of muscle contraction.
2. Conducting various experiments related to the cardiovascular system and blood.
Values, autonomy and responsibility:
1. Evaluating self-learning and performance, making decisions related to self-development, and practicing reflective and independent thinking to effectively deal with and respond to routine or unexpected circumstances.
