Course Description: Theoretical: Fundamentals and concepts of soilless agriculture. - A brief overview of nutrients - How plants obtain their nutritional needs - Preparation of nutrient solutions used in soilless agriculture. - Static nutrient solution cultures. - Flowing nutrient solution cultures. - Nutrient film technique (NFT) and its development. - Different types of solid substrate cultures. - Cultivation in fiber substrates. Practical: - Familiarization with the laboratory and greenhouse as the basis for the course. - Extraction and estimation of available nutrients. - How to prepare nutrient solutions. - Methods for establishing static and flowing nutrient solution cultures. - Different methods for establishing nutrient film technique cultures. - Establishing and preparing sand cultures. - Different methods used for irrigation in vegetable farms. - Irrigation methods for growing plants in tanks. - Preparing different types of solid substrate cultures. - Preparing plants for cultivation in fiber substrates. - Production of medicinal and aromatic plants under soilless cultivation conditions.

Objectives of the course :
  • Introducing students to the basic principles of hydroponics and types of soilless cultivation.
  • Introduction to soilless cultivation systems and the growing media used in each system.
  • Students will learn about the processes and practices necessary to establish soilless vegetable farms.
  • To provide students with knowledge that enables them to cultivate various vegetable crops without soil, as well as their cultivation and care methods.

  • Understanding the basics of hydroponics and how to feed plants with it.
  • Understanding the components of a nutrient solution, how to prepare it, and how to add it.
  • Recognizing integrated soil-less farming management and its relationship with the environment.
