Classification of floral plants

Course Description: Lecture: - Introduction to taxonomy and identification of scientific and applied importance/ History of taxonomy, and a comparative study of different classification systems/ Introduction to taxonomic keys, methods of their use, and study of taxonomic units/ Study of sources of observable taxonomic characteristics: vegetative and floral structures, inflorescences, fruits, and seeds/ Study of examples of some plant families of monocots and dicots. Practical: - Flower anatomy and floral whorls, study of placentation, study of floral diagrams, flower symmetry, study of floral formula, flower anatomy in a monocot plant (Poaceae, Arecaceae, etc.), flower anatomy in a dicot plant (families: Lamiaceae, Solanaceae, etc.)

Objectives of the course :
  • Introduction to the history of taxonomy, the basic principles of classification systems, and evolution.
