Foundations of Entomology

Course Description: Theoretical: - Review of the Animal Kingdom and the Phylum Arthropoda, and the place of insects in the Animal Kingdom. - Importance of insects, benefits and harms of insects, and factors that aided the superiority and survival of insects. - External morphological anatomy (head and its appendages - thorax and its appendages - abdomen and its appendages - body wall and molting). - External morphological anatomy (digestive system - circulatory system - respiratory system - muscular system - nervous system - reproductive system). - Life cycles and metamorphosis. Practical: - External morphological anatomy (head and its appendages - thorax and its appendages - abdomen and its appendages - body wall and molting). - Classification of insects and taxonomic ranks.

Objectives of the course :

* Introduce the student to the fundamentals of entomology.
Introduction to the external and internal modifications of the insect body and the appendages of each body region
Provide the student with information about life cycles and development in insects.

By the end of the student's study of the course, they will be able to:
 Identifies the insect and the difference between it and other arthropods.
 Knows the insect body structure and the various adaptations in body regions.
 Identifies internal mutations and how they perform their functions.
