Course Description: Theory: - Essential plant nutrients: forms, functions, deficiency symptoms, and sources. Nutrient absorption, translocation, and metabolism in plants. Factors affecting soil fertility and plant nutrition: organic matter, soil reactions, clay and its properties, ion exchange. Methods for estimating soil fertility. Nitrogen in soil and plants. Phosphorus in soil and plants. Potassium in soil and plants. Sulfur, calcium, and magnesium in soil and plants. Micronutrients in soil and plants. Assessment of soil fertility and plant nutrition. Practical: - Introduction to soil sampling for physical and chemical analyses. - Collecting plant samples from the field and preparing them for analysis. - Methods for extracting nutrients from soil. - Estimating nutrients in soil: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium. - Estimating micronutrients in soil: Iron, Zinc, Manganese. - Estimating soil fertility. - Preparation of nutrient solutions.
