Adult Nursing 2

Course Description: This nursing course provides comprehensive nursing care for adults with acute or chronic illnesses. The course aims to offer learning opportunities for students to acquire the necessary knowledge and problem-solving skills to develop holistic and safe nursing care plans for patients with health problems, particularly in surgical areas. This includes care for the respiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, urinary, nervous, and endocrine systems. The course also covers pre-operative nursing care, surgical wound pain management, assessment of provided care, and maintaining patients' psychological and social well-being. It also addresses how to formulate health problems and apply knowledge of pharmacological principles and related medical conditions in clinical practice. This, in turn, provides opportunities to develop competencies in a range of skills acquired in both laboratory and clinical hospital settings.

Objectives of the course :

1. Knowledge of the pathophysiological changes associated with dysfunction of the respiratory, circulatory, musculoskeletal, urinary, nervous, and endocrine systems, and their application to nursing care for patients in internal medicine and surgical departments. .
2. Discussion of the basic principles and side effects of administering medications in relation to nursing. .
3. Identify and implement appropriate, evidence-based interventions when caring for patients at risk for wounds and pain. .
4. Present clinical practice in a safe intensive care setting based on the integration of theoretical principles and practical skills. .
Utilizing the nursing process to identify healthcare needs for adults by selecting specific surgical cases. .
6. Conduct comprehensive patient needs assessments using an appropriate assessment tool. .
7. Collaborate with the healthcare team to promote health, reduce risks, and manage diseases in adult surgical patients with complex healthcare needs. .
8. Utilizing knowledge in writing a nursing care plan for patients with problems requiring surgical intervention. .
9. Explanation and consideration of the application of quality standards in providing nursing care to patients undergoing surgery.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

1. Explains the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and progression of diseases that require surgery. .
2. Apply the nursing process to provide comprehensive care to adult patients undergoing surgery.
3. Applies nursing skills safely and effectively during the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative periods, in accordance with professional standards.
Applies evidence-based practices for the prevention and management of post-operative complications.
Clinical reasoning and decision-making are used in the care of surgical patients.
6. Applies effective communication and collaboration methods with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
7. Health education is provided to the patient and their family during surgery, recovery, and the hospital discharge plan.
