Maternal Health Nursing

Course Description: This course aims for a deep understanding of the information and skills necessary for studying women through their different life stages, including pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and menopause. Information on reproductive health, safe motherhood, and gynecological diseases is essential for planning and implementing nursing care for women prior to conception, during the prenatal and postnatal periods. Biophysical, psychosocial, and developmental information is necessary for providing comprehensive care to women and their families in hospitals and various community health settings. .

Objectives of the course :

1. Integration of knowledge from biological and physical sciences, humanities, fetal development and growth, and maternal and newborn nursing.
2. Apply the nursing plan to promote and maintain the health of women, newborns, and their families.
3. Discuss ethical applications related to the practice of maternal and newborn nursing.
4. Explain the basic physiological information of menstruation, fertilization, and the early stages of embryonic development, the placenta, and the umbilical cord.
5. Description of healthcare for women during pregnancy, whether it is a normal pregnancy or a high-risk pregnancy.
6. Discuss the mechanism of natural childbirth.
7. Providing immediate nursing care to newborns.
8. Providing advice to postpartum women on breastfeeding, self-care, and contraception.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:
Acquire advanced knowledge and clinical skills in the field of maternal and women's health.
Applies safe, evidence-based, ethical, and culturally sensitive nursing care in maternal health for women throughout their reproductive lifespan.
