Basic concepts of nursing care

Course Description: This course aims to equip students with the fundamental information, skills, and attitudes necessary to work as professional nurses in patient care across various healthcare settings. Acquiring the basic principles of nursing care is the cornerstone of nursing education, preparing nursing graduates to practice the profession and understand the various roles they must perform. The course content emphasizes different nursing concepts that students will explore, learning about the determinants of health and illness, and various human needs such as nutrition, fluid balance, sensation, sleep, respiration, elimination, thermoregulation, movement, and other bodily functions. It also addresses nursing as a profession, covering its fundamentals and different documentation methods. .

Objectives of the course :

1. Understanding the basic concepts of health and basic human needs.
2. Describe the importance and techniques of standard precautions and infection control.
3. Identify principles and develop skills for safely providing basic nursing care, including medication administration.
4. Demonstrating problem-solving ability. .
5. Provide care that supports basic and complex physiological processes.
6. Apply principles of effective communication and accurate documentation while serving or managing patient needs.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:
1. Acquires competence in performing basic nursing skills within the framework of the nursing process.
Provides a safe environment for patients, oneself, and others while performing nursing care activities.
3. Critical thinking is applied to patient care interventions.
4. Explores the basic concepts of health, basic human needs, sensory perception, types of documentation, fatigue, and the physiological changes associated with immobility.
5. Applies all basic procedures such as oxygen therapy, enema technique, vital signs measurement, bed making, healthcare, use of personal protective equipment, and hand washing.
6. Demonstrates an understanding of standard precautions and infection control techniques, principles of nutritional needs, fluid balance and imbalances, and explaining adaptation mechanisms for healthy and unhealthy individuals.
7. The internet and computers are used for problem-solving and research skills.
