Occupational Risk Management for Nursing

Course Description: This elective course focuses on empowering students to practice occupational health. It prepares students to use nursing skills in risk control, and to promote health and safety in healthcare institutions and facilities. Naturally, this will provide students with possible career opportunities in this regard, including positions in management, research, consulting, and education in various settings such as companies, museums, factories, as well as hospitals, dispensaries, and health clinics.

Credit hours: 3

Objectives of the course :

1. Developing processes, procedures, standards, and measures to achieve better management of potential risks that could cause injury to personnel, property destruction, or environmental damage. .
2. Applying good practices and economic principles for effective resource utilization, in addition to the importance of safety procedures.
3. Enhance the exchange of ideas and practices to ensure knowledge of occupational and job health and safety in developing and implementing safety procedures.
4. Evaluate services, results, methods, equipment, workstations, and procedures using qualitative and quantitative methods to identify and measure relevant risks.
5. Identify methods for calculating the probability of exposure to risks. .
6. Develop planning/developmental procedures for safe work practices.
7. Designing risk control systems.

Course outputs :

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

Explains the principles of occupational health and safety, including hazard identification, risk factors, and workplace safety concepts relevant to nursing practice.
2. Assesses occupational risks using basic qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods.
Applies evidence-based risk control and management strategies to promote safe work practices in healthcare and community facilities.
4. Uses digital tools and information systems to support risk reporting, monitoring, and occupational health documentation.
Demonstrates effective communication, teamwork, and professional responsibility in promoting a safety culture in the workplace.
6. Apply ethical and legal principles in occupational health nursing to support worker safety and regulatory responsibility.
7. The student practices safe, regulatory, and ethical approaches, and the roles of multidisciplinary occupational health professionals.
8. Explains prevention methods, ethical decision-making, and promoting a safety culture through optimal use of digital tools and information systems for risk reporting, monitoring, and occupational health management.
