Course Description: Forms of energy, oil, gas, and coal. Combustion processes, energy cycles. Steam generators and their component design. Turbines. Load curves. Field trips to power plants and other energy facilities.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: ME 395
Objectives of the course :

1. Introduce students to different energy sources.
Providing students with the fundamental principles of handling fuel and the combustion process.
3. Provide students with the fundamental principles necessary to understand various power generation methods from conventional and renewable sources.
4. Provide students with the necessary skills to analyze thermal power plants, estimate their efficiency, and select the optimal solution for specific conditions.
5. Introduce students to the different components of thermal power plants.
6. Providing students with the appropriate skills to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot these components and energy storage systems.
7. Introduce students to the basic concepts of the cost of power generation.

Course outputs :

The ability to identify the fundamentals, theories, concepts, and practical applications of steam and gas turbine power plants, in addition to the fundamentals of fuel handling and the combustion process.

3. The ability to identify irreversible processes in steam and gas power cycles, and the various methods for improving cycle efficiency.
