Course Description: This course will cover (1) an introduction to the principles of electrochemistry and the fundamental aspects of electrochemical corrosion. (2) kinetic aspects of electrochemistry, including Pourbaix diagrams, mixed potential theory, and the theory and application of passivity. (3) forms of corrosion, (4) corrosion mechanisms, electrochemical methods of studying and measuring corrosion, and (5) principles and methods leading to the mitigation of corrosion problems as they may be encountered in engineering practice.

Prerequisites: ME 350
Objectives of the course :

(1) Teaching the principles of electrochemistry in addition to the basics of electrochemical corrosion.
(2) Teaching the kinetic aspects of electrochemistry.
Teaching forms of corrosion.
(4) Teaching corrosion mechanisms.
(5) Teaching the methods used to measure corrosion.
(6) Teaching the principles and methods for corrosion prevention and control.
