Fluid and Heat Laboratory (1)

Course Description: Measuring temperature and humidity, calibrating a Bourdon tube using the deadweight method, measuring forces generated by a water jet, studying the phenomenon of water hammer, measuring hydrostatic forces on fully and partially submerged surfaces, testing the performance of single and multi-stage reciprocating air compressors, measuring the calorific value of gaseous fuels, exhaust gas analysis, performance evaluation of a spark-ignition internal combustion engine, performance evaluation of a compression-ignition internal combustion engine, finding and drawing flow lines for fluids.
Credits: 1
Prerequisites: ME 385
Objectives of the course :

1. Enabling the student to measure various physical properties related to fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
2. Experimentally clarifying various concepts and phenomena related to thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
Enable the student to write laboratory reports.

Course outputs :

1. Acquire knowledge of the basic concepts and definitions of fluid properties, fluid statics and dynamics, forces acting on submerged bodies, pure substances, and ideal gases.
2. Ability to analyze and confirm fundamental laws such as conservation of mass, momentum, and energy through physical experiments.
3. The ability to know how to use appropriate devices and tools (such as thermometers, calorimeters, and pressure sensors) to measure and evaluate properties like temperature, pressure, thermal content, and fluid properties.
4. The ability to compare experimental results with theoretical predictions and explain discrepancies arising from real-world factors such as friction or turbulence.
5. Ability to communicate experimental results through writing professional laboratory reports that include data representation (tables/graphs) and engineering judgment.
6. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively within teams to complete tasks, share data, and discuss results with strict adherence to safety procedures in a laboratory environment and sustainability.
