Course Description: Available energy, ideal gas mixtures, gas-vapor mixtures, thermodynamics of reciprocating gas compressors, internal combustion engines, combustion.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: ME 371
Objectives of the course :

1. Provide the student with the basic concepts of available energy.
2. Introduce the student to the basic principles of gas mixtures, whether ideal gases or real gases.
Student defines the basic concepts of gas and water vapor mixtures and their applications in air conditioning.
4. Introduce the student to fuel classifications and the basic principles of combustion processes in the field of thermal science.
5. Introduction to the student of the thermodynamic principles of reciprocating gas compressors.
Introduce students to the operating principle of internal combustion engines.
7. Enhance students' understanding of the concept of energy.

Course outputs :

1. Recognize the basic concepts of thermodynamics.
2. Mastery of the correct application of the First Law of Thermodynamics.
3. Gain extensive knowledge about available energy and how to analyze thermal systems according to the second law of thermodynamics.
Acquiring the necessary skill to study and analyze systems containing different gaseous components and to determine their properties.
5. Ability to study and analyze air conditioning processes.
6. Ability to study and analyze fuel combustion and relate combustion reactions to thermodynamic systems.
